September Happenings
Thank you so much to those who helped make our day out at the Farmer's Market a great success! We had such a great response from the market attendees and over 20 people expressed an interest in learning more about our little guild!
We have started two new activities: freebie table at the Sew Day and a lending library available at both events. The freebie table is for you to pass on any fabric, patterns, etc that you don't want. If you have books that you don't want anymore (quilting/sewing/etc related), consider donating them to the Guild lending library. Members can check out books at meetings.
Our September events include our Monthly Meeting on the 2nd Wednesday, which is Sept 11th, and our Sew Day on the last Saturday, which is September 28th. Both will be at the Market of Choice meeting room.
Monthly Meeting, 9/11, 7pm
Our plan for this meeting had been to hold elections and vote on by-laws and dues. We will have our usual meeting, including introductions, show and tell (bring all your summer projects!), secret swap (the theme is FALL), a short discussion of the elections/by-laws/dues, a fun tutorial, and a door prize. Don't forget to work on your nametags -- and if you need fabric for it, you can pick it up at the meeting.
Sew Day, Sept 28th Noon-6pm
Bring your machine and projects and sew with us! Extra irons, ironing surfaces, rotary cutters/mats, and extension cords are always helpful -- just be sure to label anything you are sharing. Bring anything you want to share for the freebie table.
BTW, if you have a fun technique or skill that you would like to share with the group at either event, please let me know.
See you on the 11th and the 28th and happy sewing

CMQG at the Farmer's Market!
Thanks to everyone who participated in the first anniversary event at the Corvallis Farmer's Market this past Saturday. It was so much fun. We had a beautiful booth thanks to the lovely organizers of the Farmer’s Market, Rebecca Landis and Vonda Peters. And we had a little help from the fabulous sewn goods of our members. It looked awesome if I do say so myself.
It was fun to reach out to our community and we did seem to
talk to people for the entire time we were there. Who knew there would be this much interest in
modern quilts!?
Thank-you Corvallis!
We will be having our September meeting at the Market of choice meeting room, upstairs, on 9/11 at 7pm.

Aug 31 -- Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild 1st Anniversary Party at the Corvallis Farmer's Market!
Thanks to Lisa, we will have a booth at the Farmer's Market to showcase our growing guild and celebrate our one year anniversary. We will need lots of people at the booth to answer questions and share information. We hope to have lots of quilting and sewing projects, in any phase of completion, to decorate the booth. Additionally, there will be electricity and we hope to actually be sewing! There is talk of a jelly roll race! Come to the evening meeting to help plan this event.
Happy sewing & see you soon!

Our Monthly Guild Meeting is a chance to meet other fellow quilters (all levels are welcome!), learn about upcoming quilting events, share our latest creations to inspire others, and include a tutorial or presentation related to quilting and sewing. PLEASE NOTE: This is a change from our previous locations - a permanent location has not yet been found

Our Monthly Sew Day is a chance to get in a long block of sewing time with other quilters. You bring your machine and current projects, and we'll provide an iron/ironing surface and rotary cutter/mat (although more are always helpful, just be sure to label them).
Future meetings:
June 12th -- Monthly Guild Meeting (second Wednesday evening of each month)
June 29th -- Monthly Sew Day (last Saturday afternoon of each month)

April meeting happenings ~
Items discussed at the 4/13 meeting
Starfish service project for Family Tree Relief Nursery
The Family Tree Relief Nursery will hold their annual luncheon on Mary 9th, and they asked us to help create starfish for decorations. The contact, Marie, says they would like them to each be unique, and can take about 10 minutes each. They need 250 by May 1! Once we get more details, we can bring supplies to the Sew Day and work on them there.
PNW Modern Quilt Guild Meet-Up
Save the date for a meet-up with other guilds in the PNW -- August 15-18 in Portland. More details will be passed along as I receive them.
Oregon Summer Quilt Expo
This quilting expo is taking place alongside the Sisters show, July 11-14. We have coupon postcards if you would like them.
Oregon Gardens Show
This show takes place in January, and I have forwarded the information to the group so that we can plan for it.
Monthly Guild Swap
We are going to start an optional monthly themed swap! I'm super excited about this and hope to see some fun interpretations! Our first swap will take place at our April Sew Day, on April 27th. The idea is that each month there will be a theme and those who choose to participate will covertly make something at home based on that theme.
Some ideas include pin cushions, pillows, bags, mini quilts, kitchen towels, pillow cases, decorative handicrafts, etc, etc, etc. Have fun and be creative! Make something you would love to receive! Bring it to the meeting wrapped in some way -- a plain brown bag stapled or taped shut is perfect.
For our first swap, I'm going to keep it simple and choose the Spring-related theme of Green!
If you plan to participate, please email or call me by the morning of the meeting with the times you plan to be at the Sew Day, so we can make sure everyone is present when we hold the swap.
Monthly/Annual Guild Bee
Many are excited about this idea, but we will hold off on initiating it for a few months until we have a larger group. More info to come!
Modern Quilt Guild National-Level Changes
Thank you to everyone who participated in this discussion and shared their ideas and opinions. I was worried about how it would work out and it went great! As a group, we decided that we would like to officially join the group as soon as we have the numbers needed. We will re-visit this at the July meeting to choose the level of dues, take an official vote, and choose a board. At least 10 paying members are needed and we have at least 7 right now.
Meeting Locations/Times/Dates
Again, thank you to everyone who helped with this discussion! The decision we came to, at this time, was to keep meeting for a longer meeting every 4th Saturday. Everyone liked the Market of Choice location, and we decided we would meet there as much as possible. If the Market of Choice location was not available, we will meet at the Willamette Landing location.
Board Members and Volunteers
Thank you so much to those who volunteered on Saturday to help with the many aspects of running the guild!
President: Connie Langevin
Vice President: open
Secretary: open
Treasurer: open
Publicity: Ellie Larsen (thank you!)
Events and Programs: Meagan Karstensen
Blog Management: Caroline Press
Banner and Logo Design
We talked about this and decided to brainstorm individually and talk at meetings but would like to have something completed by August (for the PNW meet-up).
Thank you again to all who attended, and I look forward to seeing you on April 27th!
~ Connie
