September News

Since we've had issues with some of our members not receiving our emails, I'm posting our last group email here, minus the bit about Pam's class since that info was just posted.

Hi Everyone!  Lots of info in this newsletter, so sit down with your favorite drink and enjoy :)

First, I'd like to thank Caroline for donating her awesome Rebel Quilt to be raffled off as a fundraiser for the guild!  So generous!! The winner, Karen Keller of Covington, Washington, was announced last night on Instagram. A big thanks to Sarah & Courtney for doing such an amazing job of organizing this fundraiser and to everyone who posted on their various social media sites!

Our meeting last week was held outside, just west of the OSU Craft Center.  Unfortunately, not everyone received the email that I sent out regarding our change in location due to the Craft Center being closed. In addition to the email, I also posted it on Facebook and Instagram; however, I neglected to post it on our blog.  I apologize for that, and we are looking into a different email program as there have been way too many instances where members are gettingsome emails but not all emails.  This just isn't acceptable, and we will work through this as quickly as possible.  If you'd like my cell # to reach me regarding our meeting/sew dates or anything else, please send me a separate email, and I'd be happy to give that to you.

Our Farmers Market event was a success!  Thank you to everyone who participated by being at the event and/or donated items. I've requested an earlier date for next year's event to hopefully avoid the bad weather. We had quite a few people who filled out our interest forms, and Courtney has been in contact with all of them.  We even had one of those quilters show up for our meeting!

QuiltCon Charity Quilt -- We have decided on the Magic Triangles block Magic Triangles Tutorial This block takes two 10" squres of white and two 10" squares of a color to make one block.  This is the color palette recommended by The Modern Quilt Guild http://quiltconwest.com/get-involved/member-charity-challenge/  Dana will be cutting 10.5" squares of white and the five colors to be used.  She will bring fabric to the September Sew Day on the 26th as well.  The cost of the fabric will be covered by the guild.  This was okayed by our treasurer who was present at the meeting :) (no names mentioned).  We will use a coordinating print for backing & binding (print to be decided).  Courtney has offered to piece the quilt, Camille's mom has agreed to quilt it, and Linda has offered to bind it. Thank you ladies!  We will need these blocks to be turned inno later than the October meeting. We don't want anyone to be stressing about this quilt over the holidays again.

If you haven't stopped by our Quilt County display, please do! It's at Oregon Coffee & Tea at the corner of 2nd and Madison in Downtown Corvallis.  Thanks to everyone who donated items to display and also those who helped set up the display!  I will get details on when we can take it down.  It's scheduled to be there through the end of September.

Have you thought about being on the CMQG board for 2016?  I know some of you have, and we discussed this at the meeting last week.  If you are interested in running for a board position or would like to nominate someone else, please email the board at corvallismodernquiltguild@gmail.com  We will accept nominations until October 1st. Voting will be onlinethis year, and the deadline to vote will be October 15th.

Our December meeting will be replaced with our holiday party on December 11th.  Do you have any suggestions for places in town that might have a separate room for large groups?  I checked with Block 15 regarding their game room.  They said that their policy is  not to reserve the game room on weekend evenings due to the high volume of customers in the restaurant. But, since I requested it so early and was the first request for a holiday party, they have offered two options - either a lunch reservation on December 11th (most of us work so I don't think that will work) or Saturday December 19th due to the end of the term at OSU.  So....if anyone has any other suggestions or would like to weigh in on either of these options, please reply as soon as possible.

OK, last but not least......the swap for October will be a fall-themed mug rug. If you aren't familiar with what a mug rug is, it's basically a large coaster or a small placemat - just big enough for a cup/glass/bottle of your favorite drink and a small snack.  Just google it or search on Pinterest. So much out there!   The swap for November will be hour baskets (find the tutorial on Craftsy at Hour Basket by Hearts & Bees  (posted by Kelby Sews on Instagram, who is half of Hearts & Bees).  And the swap for the holiday party is a pillow cover, any size from 14" to 20" This does not need to be holiday themed, just something beautiful and fun and modern!

Oh my goodness....I think I'm done now.  I hope I haven't bored you, but it was a very busy meeting with lots of information to share. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Lisa
